Born in Mexico City in 1940 Mario Almela begins his carrier at age of seven to later attend at age of twelve to Jose Bardasano's painting academy  where he would initiate to learn the foundations of painting and its techniques.

After spending some years at the school he decides to separate from formal studies to begin perfecting his work and start defining his own particular style, in the mean time he works along with his father, Pablo Almela, on painting restoration.

As a result from  his more than fifty years of activity, Mario Almela has created a large set of artwork that can take us from the beaches and jungles all the way to the valleys and mountains of Mexico.

His work can be found at institutional collections as well as private ones in Mexico, US and Spain. His art has also participated at different events at auction houses like Sotheby's and Christie's.

Recently the art gallery "La Cartuja" published a book entitled "Mario Almela, Light and Sun" which's subject is the analysis of Almela's work through the pen of Arq. Luis Ortíz Macedo and José Ignacio Aldama.
